First Choice Physician Partners, the medical foundation affiliated with Tenet California, has acquired Ventana Health and Medical Center, a five-physician primary care group based in Pismo Beach. Starting Aug. 1, the group of five physicians with Ventana Health Medical Group will now be employed with Central Coast Associated Physicians, which is affiliated with First Choice Physician Partners, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. The physicians — Drs. Mario San Bartolome, Megan Ellman, Amanthi Chandrasena, Mary Lowery and Antoinette San Bartolome — will continue to practice at 901 Oak Park Blvd., Suite 101 in Pismo Beach. The front office staff of the practice will also become employees of the new group, and office hours will remain the same.
They will join physicians Tiffany Taylor, a family practice doctor who will begin practicing in Templeton on Sept. 1; Thomas Clark, a neurologist in San Luis Obispo; and Mack McFarlane, an internist whose practice opens Sept. 1 in San Luis Obispo. Discussions are underway with a dozen additional physicians interested in employment with Central Coast Associated Physicians.
Tenet was granted an exemption by the IRS in April 2011 to create a 501(c)(3) California Medical Foundation to be known as First Choice Physician Partners. The not-for-profit corporation, which began operating in May 2012, was established to promote the health and well-being of community residents throughout the state. Tenet operates Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton.
First Choice Physician Partners now has more than 63 associated physicians and physician extenders operating on the Central Coast, and in the Central Valley, Coachella Valley, and Orange and Los Angeles counties.
